Medication Dispensing Program
The Medication Dispensing Program is a service whereby the Pacific Oncology physicians are able to provide prescription drugs to patients of the practice with the authorization of the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. The physicians are granted the ability to dispense by special application as part of the licensing process.
The Medication Dispensing Program maintains an inventory of difficult-to-obtain oral chemotherapy and supportive care drugs associated with various treatment regimens. The program is located on the second floor of the Pacific Oncology Cancer Center. The service offers prompt service and the ability to bill most insurance companies. If the program does not stock what is needed, the staff will either order the drugs or fax the prescription to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice to eliminate waiting. An advantage of using the medication dispensing program is the coordination of medical information between the record-keeping in the electronic medical record and the medication dispensing program.
